Martin & Nikki Blair

Martin's Collection

Nikki's sculptural ceramics were a revelation to Martin. Her elegant forms and vibrant palette, a stark contrast to the 'round and brown' pieces that once dominated his collection, suddenly felt dated and uninspired. Martin was captivated by Nikki's work, seeing in it a fresh energy and innovative spirit that he now plans to infuse into his fifty-piece collection. He admires Nikki's art as a powerful source of inspiration and a new direction for his ceramic art vision, one that embraces the bold, the colorful, and the truly original.

Joyful Living

artist statement

Nikki's unique ceramic art and her presence bring so much joy to my life. I'm writing this because I know she would distrust an "artist statement." She is an incredibly generous teacher, and I recently experienced a powerful demonstration of her impact. This past weekend, I had the pleasure of spending a day with Nikki, starting with amazing Cugino wood fired pizza at the Revolution Mill.

We then visited an art show at the Creative Aging Network, where Nikki served on the board. As we walked into a pottery class taught by one of her former students, it was clear that Nikki is not only known but also deeply loved. Another one of her former students, Brittany Søndberg, is also a part of cancerART. Brittany told me about Nikki. Finally, we ended with a tour of the UNCG's Weatherspoon Art Museum's MFA show.

This magical day was one of many experiences that confirm, beyond a shadow of a doubt, that creating cancerART is exactly what I should be doing because it gives me the opportunity to meet and spend time with amazing people like Nikki, who bring so much love, magic, and joy into the world through their art and presence that my life is better by association.
