Martin with his my sister Carline in Colorado riding a bicycle across America to raise money for cancer research in 2010.
After 30 days and riding 3,300 miles and raising $70K for cancer research Martin was never been so glad to see the Pacific Ocean.
After Martin's Ride - Martin had his second and much more serious round of chemotherapy at the Duke Cancer Institute.
About us
Our founder, Martin Smith, wove our story into his journey as he faced the trials of leukemia head-on. Amid his battle, Martin rediscovered the transformative power of art, love, and the unwavering support from friends, family, and everyday heroes. These elements, including the pivotal role of Doctors and new medicines, are why he survived and got the idea for ArtCures. Martin's question was simple yet profound: How could he share his gratitude for the gift of his life? ArtCures was his answer.
ArtCures builds on Martin's experience creating Found Objects with Janet McKean. Found Objects worked with artists such as Jenny Holzer, the Haring Foundation, and others to develop art-based products for museum stores.
ArtCures is further propelled by the impact of Martin's 2010 bicycle ride across America. This adventure, which raised $70,000, directly contributed to cancer research at the Duke Cancer Institute. It's a clear demonstration of how artists and shoppers can fund the development of life-saving treatments.
Martin's journey is a testament to the importance of cancer research. Martin is taking one of those "new treatments" now and doing great thanks to cancer research and heroes like Dr. John Byrd.
Martin respected his
North Carolina roots
by buying work from contemporary North Carolina artists for his art collection.

Dr. John Byrd had already saved Martin's life once, but as you can see from this picture Martin needed his help again in the spring of 2023.
Chemo sucks. This picture is of Martin at UNC Lineberger waiting for IVIG or "immune system in a bottle."
In 2023 Martin was feeling better and wanted to help artists and cancer survivors and the heroes that keep us alive I decided to create ArtCures.com.
